Sculptra

In the world of facial rejuvenation, Sculptra is considered a true game changer. Unlike a hyaluronic acid treatment, Sculptra’s primary benefit is its ability to act as a collagen stimulator. A naturally occurring protein, collagen is responsible for maintaining skin’s firmness and elasticity and for promoting a smooth and youthful appearance.

Sculptra is formulated with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA), which prompts the body to produce collagen at the injection site. Research has shown that, beginning around age 25, we lose 1% of our collagen stores every year. The result is a loss of volume which leads to sagging, fine lines, creases, and an overall appearance of aging. Sculptra helps the body replenish collagen, smoothing facial wrinkles and improving skin tightness,

Sculptra is the original FDA-approved cosmetic injectable that targets fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and creping due to collagen loss, and it has been used successfully by medical professionals for more than 25 years.

What to Expect

  • Appointments generally last between 45-60 minutes (including consultation) and results are fully realized within 6-8 weeks.
  • The results of Sculptra injections last 1-2 years, depending on the application areas and amount of product used to meet individual goals.
  • The injector will also determine the need for a topical or local anesthetic to minimize discomfort at the injection site.
  • After all makeup is removed, the nurse injector will identify the specific treatment areas, prepare the skin with an antiseptic cleanser, and apply Sculptra to the treatment areas using a small needle. Individual areas will be massaged to assist in distributing the product evenly. An ice pack will be applied to the treated area to help reduce the potential for swelling.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours prior to your appointment and avoid blood thinners like ibuprofen 1 week prior to your appointment to minimize bruising and swelling.

After Your Appointment

  • Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times, daily for 5 days following the treatment.
  • Apply ice or an ice pack (wrapped in cloth) to the treated areas to reduce swelling. Avoid placing ice directly on the skin.
  • Minimize or avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours following the treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds/booths, UV exposure and extreme temperatures for 24 hours.
  • Drink water before and after the appointment to stay hydrated.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours to minimize the possibility of bruising.
  • As with any cosmetic injectable, patients can expect injection-related side effects at the injection site such as tenderness/discomfort, bleeding redness, bruising, and swelling. These side effects usually resolve within a few hours, but some can last a few days or longer. Report any worsening or long lasting symptoms to your healthcare provider.
