Dermal Fillers

More than just a way to plump up creases and wrinkles, FDA-approved dermal fillers are a safe and effective treatment used every year by over one million patients looking to reverse the signs of aging. From restoring lost volume in cheeks to correcting facial asymmetry, soft tissue fillers are a top choice for patients seeking facial rejuvenation without the expense and risks of cosmetic surgery.

For more than 20 years, hyaluronic acid (HA) injectables such as Restylane or RHA, have successfully been used to restore volume and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

The resilient hyaluronic acid (RHA) collection of dermal fillers is a relatively new line of hyaluronic acid fillers, designed to more closely mimic natural hyaluronic acid and provide an exceptionally natural appearance to areas such as lips and nasolabial folds.

Injectable fillers like Radiesse are made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a biocompatible substance that’s identical to what’s found in the body, thus offering virtually no risk of allergic reactions. Upon injection, it safely contours areas such as the cheeks and jawline while adding volume and improving texture. And because hands also reveal signs of aging, Radiesse is a popular choice for restoring volume for a smooth, natural look.

BioBalance Skin’s experienced nurse injectors are well versed in the unique benefits of these treatments and will expertly guide patients to a safe and effective experience.

What to Expect

  • Appointments generally last between 30-60 minutes (including consultation) and results are fully realized within 2-4 weeks.
  • The results last from 6 months to 1 year, depending on the application areas and amount of product used to meet individual goals.
  • During the consultation, the nurse injector will answer any questions and take a complete medical history to determine which of the FDA-approved dermal fillers will be the best choice to achieve your specific needs and goals.
  • The consultation will also determine the need for a topical or local anesthetic to minimize discomfort at the injection site.
  • After all makeup is removed, the nurse injector will identify the specific treatment areas, prepare the skin with an antiseptic cleanser, and apply the appropriate dermal filler to the treatment areas using a small needle. An ice pack will be applied to the treated area to help reduce the potential for swelling.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours prior to your appointment and avoid blood thinners like ibuprofen and fish oil 1 week prior to your appointment to minimize bruising and swelling.
  • It is not required, but you can start taking Arnica 2 days prior to possibly reduce bruising.

After Your Appointment

  • Don’t lay down for 3-4 hours following treatment.
  • Apply ice or an ice pack (wrapped in cloth) to the treated areas to reduce swelling. Avoid placing ice directly on the skin.
  • Minimize or avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
  • Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds/booths, UV exposure and extreme temperatures for 24 hours.
  • Drink water and avoid alcohol for 24 hours to minimize the possibility of bruising.
  • As with any cosmetic injectable, patients can expect injection-related side effects at the injection site such as tenderness/discomfort, bleeding redness, bruising, and swelling. These side effects usually resolve within a few hours, but some can last a few days or longer. Report any worsening or long lasting symptoms to your healthcare provider.
