IPL Photofacial
Thanks to minimal discomfort and virtually no downtime, the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial has become a go-to treatment for patients looking for an effective solution to correcting the signs of aging most often associated with sun damage. This gentle, non-invasive and versatile procedure uses intense pulses of light energy to treat redness, brown spots, broken capillaries, and rosacea, while stimulating the body’s natural collagen production to reveal youthful, rejuvenated skin. The light energy targets and breaks up unwanted pigmentation which darkens and sloughs off or continues to get lighter in the weeks following the procedure. The process generally includes 4-6 sessions scheduled over a 6-month period.

What to Expect
- Appointments generally last between 30-60 minutes.

- Results can be seen in the first 24 hours. The full effect of an IPL Photofacial is realized over 4-6 sessions followed by 1-2 sessions annually for maintenance.
- Slight swelling may occur.
Before Your Appointment
Stop using waxing products, peels, and topical creams that contain retinol or glycolic acid that can make skin more sensitive and potentially interfere with the procedure. Because IPL interacts with pigmentation/color, avoiding tanning, tanning beds, and self-tanners for two weeks before your appointment.
During the consultation, the esthetician will answer any questions and take a complete medical history to assess treatment areas. The consultation will also determine the need for a topical or local anesthetic to minimize discomfort at the treatment site. After all makeup is removed, the esthetician will provide eye shields and apply a conductive, ultrasound gel after which a hand-held device will deliver light pulses to the skin.
After Your Appointment + Downtime
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds/booths, UV exposure and extreme temperatures for 24 hours.
- Use sunscreen daily.
- Minimal redness or swelling may occur immediately after your appointment and can be treated by applying an ice pack.
- Flaking and sloughing of skin for 1-2 weeks following the treatment.
